My college lifeI am proud of being a college student. I like my college life as it is so wonderful time in my youth. As being born in small village of the remote countryside, I didn't have a good education environment. However, I set a goal and felt confident to be a college student. After hard study, I passed the entrance examination of national college by excellent achievement. All people were proud of me, as I was the first college student in my village. I was farewell warmly by them when I came to school. I was warmly welcome by school, too. After then, I’ve felt my study is not only for myself but also for the honor of my village neighborhood and our school. The college life is wonderful. All life in school are fresh. New teachers, new classmates and fresh friends are around me. I’ve felt their friendship, wide knowledge and opening mind. The grand library, school buildings and wide playground are very attracting to me. I am very eager to learn much knowledge quickly. In high school, I was ever called as a runner before time. Now,I know I am behind time so much in fact. I hope to catch up with the time by my hard studying. Every day, you can see me get up early, doing exercise hard and go to school the first one. At night, I am the one who leaves away the library.

  Should collage students get merried?

there is a newly dissension putting forward these days: is it legally allowed for chinese on-campus students to get married before they complete their courses? some people prefer "yes" while some others prefer "no". certainly a large number of people just cannot decide which side they should be stand.

in fact, the governments allow on-campus students to get married before they complete their course. there isn t a regulation proclaimed in writing to forbid marriage of on-campus students. but it must affect those triers.in my opinion, it is unnecessary to forbid on-campus students to get married before they finished their college, however, it shouldn t be advocated or encouraged. because, for on-campus students, their play the role as learners. their main task is to learn. if they married, their school work must be affected and they may not graduate favorably or may not be capable for future works. so, i believe: almost all on-campus students would deal with the question reasoningly .

your composition should be no less than 120 words. be sure to write your composition in readable handwriting.

  man is to survive

man is finding himself confronted with more and more problems which threaten his eistence on this planet. for eample, some resources are beginning to be ehausted. many diseases are getting difficult to be cured. various kinds of pollution are becoming worse and worse. moreover, population eplosion is always on the rise...

therefore, there comes the problem: will man survive these problems?

faced with so many problems, pessimists hold that man is destined to die out. their reasons are as follows. with population eplosion, food will be scarce; space will shrink; resources will be used up. moreover, pollution will threaten our health; incurable diseases will endanger our lives... obviously, man has only one way out——complete destruction.

admittedly, these people have their reasons to think in this way, but i don't think they are altogether right. i believe that man is bound to overcome these difficulties and survive a into the future because man is endowed with wisdom. with this wisdom, he came up with solutions to problems he came across in the past. with this wisdom, he will surely work out solutions to the problems which will arise in the future.

  TEXT

Asimov explains why there is much more in intelligence than just being able to score high on intelligence tests.

  What Is Intelligence, Anyway?

  Isaac Asimor

What is intelligence, anyway? When I was in the army I received a kind of aptitude test that all soldiers took and, against a normal of 100, scored 160. No one at the base had ever seen a figure like that and for two hours they made a nig fuss over me. (It didn't mean anything. The next day I was still a buck private with KP as my highest duty.)

All my life I've been registering scores like that, so that I have the complacent feeling that I'm highly intelligent, and I expect other people to think so, too. Actually, though, don't such scores simply mean that I am very good at answering the type of academic questions that are considered worthy of answers by the people who make up the intelligence tests - people with intellectual bents similar to mine?

For instance, I had an auto-repair man once, who, on these intelligence tests, could not possibly have scored more than 80, by my estimate. I always took it for granted that I was far more intelligent than he was. Yet, when anything went wrong with my car I hastened to him with it, watched him anxiously as he explored its vitals, and listened to his pronouncements as though they were divine oracles - and he always fixed my car.

Well, then, suppose my auto-repair man devised questions for an intelligence test. Or suppose a carpenter did, or a farmer, or, indeed, almost anyone but an academician. By every one of those tests, I'd prove myself a moron. And I'd be a moron, too. In a world where I could not use my academic training and my verbal talents but had to do something intricate or hard, working with my hands, I would do poorly. My intelligence, then, is not absolute. Its worth is determined by the society I live in. Its numerical evaluation is determined by a small subsection of that society which has managed to foist itself on the rest of us as an arbiter of such matters.

Consider my auto-repair man, again. He had a habit of telling me jokes whenever he saw me. One time he raised his head from under the automobile hood to say: "Doc, a deaf-and-dumb guy went into a hardware store to ask for some nails. He put two fingers together on the counter and made hammering motions with the other hand. The clerk brought him a hammer. He shook his head and pointed to the two fingers he was hammering. The clerk brought him nails. He picked out the sizes he wanted, and left. Well, doc, the next guy who came in was a blind man. He wanted scissors. How do you suppose he asked for them?"

I lifted my right hand and made scissoring motions with my first two fingers. Whereupon my auto-repair man laughed heartily and said, "Why, you dumb fool, he used his voice and asked for them." Then he said, smugly, "I've been trying that on all my customers today." "Did you catch many?" I asked. "Quite a few," he said, "but I knew for sure I'd catch you." "Why is that?" I asked. "Because you're so goddamned educated, doc, I know you couldn't be very smart."

And I have an uneasy feeling he had something there.

Lung-Lung (Dragon-Dragon) liked his new house which was bigger and nicer than his old one, and he liked all his new neighbors, too. However, there was not one who was a little boy Lung-Lung’s size; he was a little upset about that. One day a big steam shovel came rumbling up the hill. It rumbled right into the empty site Across the street and started to dig a big hole.

Now lung-lung was so busy watching that he did not even notice when someone came and stood beside him, but he did notice when someone said, ‘See that big shovel? It is digging the ground for my new house!’ Lung-Lung looked to see who was talking, and it was a little boy just his own size! ‘Good!’ said Lung-Lung. ‘Your new house will be opposite my new house’ and we can play together everyday.’

What Is in the Way of Paying Back the Loans

Ever since colleges started to charge the students for the education they receive, there has always been a problem for some students, especially for those from remote rural regions, to get the money for it. So the government offers them an option of borrowing money from banks. Surveys show that the number of students financing his education in this way is increasing.

However, some students, although not many, failed to pay back the loans as they had promised in the contract. The banks have a very hard time coping with this problem. And the government can do nothing effective to help the banks.I think there is more than one reason for this. Dishonesty may be one but not the major one. As is known, we are experiencing a particular phase of economic development where the supply of human resources is much bigger than the demand for it. So many students are not able to find a well-paid job. How can they pay the loans back? To solve this problem, I think the government should make efforts to get the whole economy go smoothly, creating more job opportunities.

  Private School

With the development of the society and economy, various private schools arise. When you read newspapers, turn on TV, or even walk on the road, you will inevitably see lots of advertisements about private schools, mainly dealing with foreign languages, computers, music, sports, and so on.

However, is it a good or bad thing to have so many private schools? As a coin has two sides, so are the private schools. On the one hand, private schools can cater to the special need of the society and the special need of people. On the other hand, they often bring people extra burden because of comparison and competition.

We often see there is a table cloth, a book or something else on the desk in the classroom or library, indicating the seat is taken. This kind of phenomenon is very usual in almost all colleges and universities. Strangely enough, most of students seem to take this for granted, and few will protest it.

Though most of students’ taking seats in advance is for better study, this kind of phenomenon has great negative effects. On the one hand, it is a selfish behavior, which damages other students’ interests. Sometimes even if many students come to the classroom very early, they can not find a seat. On the other hand, reserving a seat violates the rule of fairness. No matter how late you come to class, the seat is still reserved for you even though many others are eager for that seat.

Considering the above-mentioned, I think, it is high time that we college students took a good look of our behavior. Indeed, only if all of us can improve our consciousness, it is not a difficult task for us to get rid of this kind of phenomenon “reserving a seat”.
