　　I am a third year master major in automation at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, P. R. China. With tremendous interest in Industrial Engineering, I am writing to apply for acceptance into your Ph.D. graduate program.

　　Education background

　　In 1995, I entered the Nanjing University of Science & Technology (NUST) -- widely considered one of the China’s best engineering schools. During the following undergraduate study, my academic records kept distinguished among the whole department. I was granted First Class Prize every semester,In 1999, I got the privilege to enter the graduate program waived of the admission test.

　　At the period of my graduate study, my overall GPA(3.77/4.0) ranked top 5% in the department. In the second semester, I became teacher assistant that is given to talented and matured students only. This year, I won the Acer Scholarship as the one and only candidate in my department, which is the ultimate accolade for distinguished students endowed by my university. Presently, I am preparing my graduation thesis and trying for the honor of Excellent Graduation Thesis.

　　Research experience and academic activity

　　When a sophomore, I joined the Association of AI Enthusiast and began to narrow down my interest for my future research. With the tool of OpenGL and Matlab, I designed a simulation program for transportation scheduling system. It is now widely used by different research groups in NUST. I assumed and fulfilled a sewage analysis & dispose project for Nanjing sewage treatment plant. This was my first practice to convert a laboratory idea to a commercial product.

　　In retrospect, I find myself standing on a solid basis in both theory and experience, which has prepared me for the Ph.D. program. My future research interests include: Network Scheduling Problem, Heuristic Algorithm research (especially in GA and Neural network), Supply chain network research, Hybrid system performance analysis with Petri nets and Data Mining.

　　教學(xué)就是教與學(xué)，兩者是相互聯(lián)系，不可分割的，有教者就必然有學(xué)者。學(xué)生是被教的主體。因此，了解和分析學(xué)生狀況，有針對(duì)地教對(duì)教學(xué)成功與否至關(guān)重要。最初接觸教學(xué)的時(shí)候，我還不懂得了解學(xué)生對(duì)教學(xué)的重要性，只是專心研究書本，教材，想方設(shè)法令課堂生動(dòng)，學(xué)生易理解。

　　一方面，農(nóng)村的學(xué)生聽，說的潛力相對(duì)較弱，授課采用較深的普通話教學(xué)，同學(xué)們還不能適應(yīng)。而用廣州話教學(xué)，又削弱語文語感教學(xué)的功能。另一方面，七班的同學(xué)比較活躍，上課氣氛用心，但中等生、差生占較大多數(shù)，尖子生相對(duì)較少。因此，講得太深，沒有照顧到整體，我備課時(shí)也沒有注意到這點(diǎn)，因此教學(xué)效果不如理想。從此能夠看出，了解及分析學(xué)生實(shí)際狀況，實(shí)事求是，具體問題具體分析，做到因材施教，對(duì)授課效果有直接影響。這就是教育學(xué)中提到的“備教法的同時(shí)要備學(xué)生”。這一理論在我的教學(xué)實(shí)踐中得到了驗(yàn)證。

　　教學(xué)中，備課是一個(gè)必不可少，十分重要的環(huán)節(jié)，備學(xué)生，又要備教法。備課不充分或者備得不好，會(huì)嚴(yán)重影響課堂氣氛和用心性，曾有一位前輩對(duì)我說：“備課備不好，倒不如不上課，否則就是白費(fèi)心機(jī)�！蔽颐靼椎絺湔n的重要性，因此，每一天我都花費(fèi)超多的時(shí)間在備課之上，認(rèn)認(rèn)真真鉆研教材和教法，不滿意就不收工。雖然辛苦，但事實(shí)證明是值得的。

　　一堂準(zhǔn)備充分的課，會(huì)令學(xué)生和老師都獲益不淺。例如我在講授『安塞腰鼓』的時(shí)候，這課的主題是“認(rèn)識(shí)和理解安塞腰鼓”，教學(xué)難度比較大。如果照本宣科地講授，學(xué)生會(huì)感到困難和沉悶。為了上好這堂課，我認(rèn)真研究了課文，找出了重點(diǎn)，難點(diǎn)，準(zhǔn)備有針對(duì)性地講。為了令教學(xué)生動(dòng)，不沉悶，我還為此準(zhǔn)備了超多的教具，授課時(shí)就胸有成竹了。當(dāng)講到一半的時(shí)候，我拿出準(zhǔn)備好的錄象帶，讓學(xué)生觀摩學(xué)習(xí)，學(xué)生個(gè)性用功，教學(xué)效果十分理想。相反，我沒有認(rèn)真?zhèn)湔n的時(shí)候，課堂氣氛沉悶，教學(xué)效果不好，與此相比可見，認(rèn)真?zhèn)湔n對(duì)教學(xué)十分重要。

　　備課充分，能調(diào)動(dòng)學(xué)生的用心性，上課效果就好。但同時(shí)又要有駕馭課堂的潛力，因?yàn)閷W(xué)生在課堂上的一舉一動(dòng)都會(huì)直接影響課堂教學(xué)。因此上課必須要設(shè)法令學(xué)生投入，不讓其分心，這就很講究方法了。上課資料豐富，現(xiàn)實(shí)。教態(tài)自然，講課生動(dòng)，難易適中照顧全部，就自然能夠吸引住學(xué)生。所以，老師每一天都要有充足的精神，讓學(xué)生感受到一種自然氣氛。這樣，授課就事半功倍。回看自己的授課，我感到有點(diǎn)愧疚，因?yàn)橛袝r(shí)我并不能很好地做到這點(diǎn)。當(dāng)學(xué)生在課堂上無心向?qū)W，違反紀(jì)律時(shí)，我的情緒就受到影響，并且把這帶到教學(xué)中，讓原本正常的講課受到?jīng)_擊，發(fā)揮不到應(yīng)有的水平，以致影響教學(xué)效果。我以后務(wù)必努力克服，研究方法，采取有利方法解決當(dāng)中困難。

　　語文是一門工具學(xué)科，對(duì)學(xué)生而言，既熟悉又困難，在這樣一種大環(huán)境之下，要教好語文，就要讓學(xué)生喜愛語文，讓他們對(duì)語文產(chǎn)生興趣。否則學(xué)生對(duì)這門學(xué)科產(chǎn)生畏難情緒，不愿學(xué)，也無法學(xué)下去。為此，我采取了一些方法，就是盡量多講一些文化生活故事，讓他們更了解語文，更喜歡學(xué)習(xí)語文。因?yàn)橹挥姓Z文水平提高，他們才能提高同學(xué)們的語文寫作潛力，對(duì)成績(jī)優(yōu)秀的同學(xué)很有好處。

　　因?yàn)檎Z文的特殊狀況，學(xué)生在不斷學(xué)習(xí)中，會(huì)出現(xiàn)好差分化現(xiàn)象，差生面擴(kuò)大，會(huì)嚴(yán)重影響班內(nèi)的學(xué)習(xí)風(fēng)氣。因此，絕對(duì)不能忽視。為此，我制定了具體的計(jì)劃和目標(biāo)。對(duì)這部分同學(xué)進(jìn)行有計(jì)劃的輔導(dǎo)。我把這批同學(xué)分為三個(gè)組。第一組是有潛力提高，但平時(shí)懶動(dòng)腦筋不學(xué)的同學(xué)，對(duì)這些同學(xué)，我采取群眾輔導(dǎo)，給他們分配固定任務(wù)，不讓他們有偷懶的機(jī)會(huì)，讓他們發(fā)揮應(yīng)有水平;第二組是肯學(xué)，但由于潛力不強(qiáng)的同學(xué)。對(duì)這部分同學(xué)要適當(dāng)引導(dǎo)，耐心教導(dǎo)，慢慢提高他們的成績(jī)，不能操之過急，且要多鼓勵(lì)。只要他們肯努力，成績(jī)有望搞提高;第三組是紀(jì)律松散，學(xué)習(xí)不認(rèn)真，基礎(chǔ)又不好的同學(xué)。對(duì)這部分人要進(jìn)行課余時(shí)間個(gè)別輔導(dǎo)。因?yàn)檫@部分同學(xué)需要一個(gè)安靜而又不受干擾的.環(huán)境，才會(huì)立下心來學(xué)習(xí)。只要堅(jiān)持輔導(dǎo)，這些同學(xué)基礎(chǔ)重新建立起來，以后授課的效果就會(huì)更好。

　　語文是語言。困此，除了課堂效果之外，還需要讓學(xué)生多讀，多講，多練。為此，在早讀時(shí)，我堅(jiān)持下班了解早讀狀況，發(fā)現(xiàn)問題及時(shí)糾正。課后發(fā)現(xiàn)學(xué)生作業(yè)問題也及時(shí)解決，及時(shí)講清楚，讓學(xué)生即時(shí)消化。另外，對(duì)部分不自覺的同學(xué)還采取強(qiáng)硬背誦等方式，提高他們的潛力。

　　經(jīng)過一個(gè)學(xué)期的努力，期末考就是一種考驗(yàn)。無論成績(jī)高低，都體現(xiàn)了我在這學(xué)期的教學(xué)成果。我明白到這并不是最重要的，重要的是在本學(xué)期后如何自我提高，如何共同提高學(xué)生的語文水平。因此，無論怎樣辛苦，我都會(huì)繼續(xù)努力，多問，多想，多向前輩學(xué)習(xí)，爭(zhēng)取進(jìn)步。

　　I’m glad to introduce myself to you. My Chinese name is Ma Lin, but you can call me Rock, my English name. I chose Rock to be my English name because I want to be as tough as a rock. I was born and raised in Guangdong, so I speak both Cantonese and Mandarin.

　　I’ll soon graduate from Zhongshan University, majoring in accounting. I think you may have interviewed quite a lot of students from our school, so you know this major prepares us for CGA and most courses are taught in English. My GPA is 3.6, it ranks number 9 in the 115 students in my grade. And I’ve passed 15 exams in CGA, I anticipate I will get the CGA qualification in 20xxx.
