except的用法

　　1. 表示“除……外”，表示排除，指的是所說的不包括在內(nèi)。如：

　　Everyone except me got an invitation. 除我之外，所有人都收到了請柬。

　　The window is never opened except in summer. 除了在夏天外，這扇窗戶從不打開。

　　2. 其后可接不定式，有時帶to(此時其前通常沒有do)，有時不帶to(此時其前通常有do)。如：

　　He did everything except wash clothes. 除了洗衣服外，他什么都做。

　　He likes nothing except to watch TV. 除了看電視外，他什么都不喜歡。

　　3. 其后除可接名詞、代詞、介詞短語、不定式等外(見上例)，還可接各類從句(what, that, when, where, why 等從句)。如：

　　We knew nothing about it except what he told us. 除了他告訴我們的情況外，我們對此一無所知(from www.yywords.com)。

　　We know nothing about him except that he is from Paris. 我們除了知道他來自巴黎外，其余的情況則一無所知。

　　I like her except when she was angry. 除了她生氣的時候，我挺喜歡她的。

　　I understand everything except why he stole the money. 我什么都明白，只是不理解他為什么要偷那筆錢。

　　My papers seem to be everywhere except where they oughtto be. 我的文件似乎完全不在它們應該在的地方(from www.yywords.com)。

　　4. except 通常不能置于句首。若需置于句首，則應換成 exceptfor。如：

　　Except for me, everyone was late. 除我外，大家都遲到了。

　　【注】用于句首時 except for 與 except 同義，但除此之外，兩者用法有差別：except 主要用來談論同類的東西，而 except for則主要用來談論不同類的東西，有時含有惋惜之意。如

　　All compositions are well written except yours. 除了你的作文外，其他的作文都寫得很好。

　　His composition is good except for a few spellingmistakes. 他的作文寫得不錯，只是有幾處拼寫錯誤。
