"When a guest comes to my home from afar on a cold night I light bamboo to boil tea to offer him." — Ancient Chinese poem.
China is the home country of tea. Before the Tang Dynasty Chinese tea was exported by land and sea first to Japan and Korea then to India and Central Asia and in the Ming and Qing dynasties to the Arabian Peninsula. In the early period of the 17th century Chinese tea was exported to Europe where the upper class adopted the fashion of drinking tea. Chinese tea—like Chinese silk and china—has become synonymous worldwide with refined culture. At the heart of the culture of tea—the study and practice of tea in all its aspects—is the simple gesture of offering a cup of tea to a guest that for Chinese people today is a fundamental social custom as it has been for centuries. China traces the development of tea as an art form to Lu Yu known as "the Saint of Tea" in Chinese history who lived during the Tang Dynasty and who wrote The Book of Tea the first ever treatise on tea and tea culture. The spirit of tea permeates Chinese culture and throughout the country there are many kinds of teas teahouses tea legends tea artifacts and tea customs. Better-known places to enjoy a good cup of tea in China include Beijing noted for its variety of teahouses; Fujian and Guangdong provinces and other places in the southeast of China that serve gongfu tea a formal serving of tea in tiny cups; the West Lake in Hangzhou also the home of the Tea Connoisseurs Association noted for its excellent green tea; and provinces in southwest China like Yunnan where the ethnic groups less affected by foreign cultures retain tea ceremonies and customs in original tea-growing areas.
His joke made me laugh to death.
His joke made me laugh to death.
I was quite amused by the joke he just told.
His joke made me laugh to death這種人鬼情未了式的句子正常多了的一個(gè)表達(dá)。
所以同學(xué)們永遠(yuǎn)也不可能在腦海中形成這么一句中文句子,沒(méi)有“我是很被逗樂(lè)被那個(gè)笑話他剛告訴”這樣的中文句子,對(duì)譯型同學(xué)就無(wú)法寫出“I was quite amused by the joke he just told”這樣的被動(dòng)句子。
Nowadays, in an ever tighter job market, great importance has been attached to an interview by both the employer and the applicant. The interview, so to speak, has become indispensable for getting a satisfactory job. On the one hand, the interviewer can take advantage of the occasion to learn about the candidates, such as their work experiences, education and their personalities, so as to pick out the right person for the company. On the other hand, the interviewee can make use of the
opportunity to get to know the job he is going to take up, the salary, the working conditions and many other things about the job he is interested in. Therefore, the job interview is very important to a job-hunter. But how can one succeed in it? Firstly of all, the interviewee must pay attention to his or her appearance. The first impression is always where we start. Get dressed properly and neatly. Secondly, good manners are equally important. Don't be too proud, and neither too timid. Just be courteous. Thirdly, the interviewee must demonstrate his aptitude and skills for the job and his knowledge about eh job-related areas. Be confident.
Last but not the least, the interviewee ought to be honest about his or her personal as well as academic background, for honesty is the best policy. To sum up, the job interview is indeed important, but there is no need to be nervous. As long as the interviewee has the ability for the job, with careful preparation and a fairly confident and honest performance, his or her success can be ensured.
Dear David :
How’s everything going? As your birthday is drawing near, I’ve prepared a gift for you. It’s a Chinese painting “bamboo”, which I specially drew for you.
In Chinese culture, bamboo carries many best wishes and excellent qualities. On one hand, it stands straight and stays green all year round, so it’s always full of life. I wish you as strong and energetic as a bamboo. On the other hand, it’s hard outside but hollow inside. If compared to a bamboo, one is usually considered to be strong-willed and modest. All in all, we use bamboo to represent a noble and gentle person.
I hope you like the gift and wish you a happy birthday.
Yours,
Li Hua

Of course, chopsticks instead the main difference on the Chinese dinner table isof knife and fork, but that's only superficial. Besides, in decent restaurants, you can always ask for a pair of knife and fork, if you find the chopsticks not helpful enough.
The real difference is that in the West, you have your own plate of food, while in China the dishes are placed on the table and everyone shares. If you are being treated to a formal dinner and particularly if the host thinks you're in the country for the first time, he will do the best to give you a taste of many different types of dishes.
The meal usually begins with a set of at least four cold dishes, to be followed by the main courses of hot meat and vegetable dishes. Soup then will be served (unless in Guangdong style restaurants) to be followed by staple food ranging from rice, noodles to dumplings.
If you wish to have your rice to go with other dishes, you should say so in good time, for most of the Chinese choose to have the staple food at last or have none of them at all.
Perhaps one of the things that surprises a Western visitor most is that some of the Chinese hosts like to put food into the plates of their guests. In formal dinners, there are always "public" chopsticks and spoons for this purpose, but some hosts may use their own chopsticks. This is a sign of genuine friendship and politeness. It is always polite to eat the food. If you do not eat it, just leave the food in the plate.
People in China tend to over-order food, for they will find it embarrassing if all the food is consumed. When you have had enough, just say so. Or you will always overeat!
