英語作文 篇1
As is shown in the chart, the number of Chinese people traveling abroad increased gradually. For one thing, in 20xx, the number of people traveling abroad was seven point five million, which was increased to ten million in 20xx. For another, in 20xx, there were twelve point one million Chinese people traveling abroad. It is obvious that China is witnessing an ever prosperous overseas tourism.
The reasons of the increase lie in several aspects. First of all, with the implementation of Chinas reform and opening policy, chinas economy has been growing rapidly and steadily. In addition, peoples income has increased tremendously, so more and more people are now eager to see the outside world with their own eyes. Thirdly, the Chinese government has been simplifying the formalities of traveling abroad and has opened more overseas tourist destinations.
As I understand, more and more Chinese people want to travel abroad. One the one hand, at present most people can afford the fees traveling abroad. On the other hand, youngsters especially young couples treat traveling abroad as a new fashion. In conclusion, in light of the development trend of the Chinese economy, the number of outbound travelers in the future will keep increasing.
英語作文 篇2
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (commonly known as the United Kingdom, the UK or Britain) is a sovereign state off the north-western coast of continental Europe. The country includes the island of Great Britain, the north-eastern part of the island of Ireland and many smaller islands. Northern Ireland is the only part of the UK that shares a land border with another sovereign state—the Republic of Ireland. Apart from this land border the UK is surrounded by the Atlantic
Ocean, the North Sea, the English Channel and the Irish Sea.
The United Kingdom is a unitary state governed under a constitutional
monarchy and a parliamentary system, with its seat of government in the capital city of London. It is a country in its own right and consists of four countries: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. There are three devolved national administrations, each with varying powers, situated in Belfast, Cardiff and Edinburgh; the capitals of Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland respectively. Associated with the UK, but not constitutionally part of it, are three Crown Dependencies and fourteen overseas territories. These are remnants of the British Empire which, at its height in 1922, encompassed almost a quarter of the world's land surface and was the largest empire in history. British influence can still be observed in the language, culture and legal systems of many of its former territories.
The UK is a developed country and has the world's sixth-largest economy by nominal GDP and seventh-largest economy by purchasing power parity. It was the world's first industrialized country and the world's foremost power during the 19th and early 20th centuries although the economic and social cost of two world wars and the decline of its empire in the latter half of the 20th century diminished its leading role in global affairs. The UK nevertheless remains a great power with leading economic, cultural, military, scientific and political influence. It is a member state of the European Union, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, and is also a member of: the Commonwealth of
Nations, G8, G20, NATO, the OECD, the Council of Europe and the World Trade Organization.
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland uses as its national flag the royal banner known as the Union Flag or, popularly, Union Jack. It consists of the red cross of Saint George (patron saint of England), edged in white, superimposed on the Cross of St Patrick (patron saint of Ireland), which are superimposed on the Saltire of Saint Andrew (patron saint of Scotland). Wales, however, is not represented in the Union Flag by Wales' patron saint, Saint David as at the time the flag
was designed Wales was part of the Kingdom of England.
"God Save the Queen" (alternatively "God Save the King") is an anthem used in a number of Commonwealth realms and British Crown Dependencies. The words of the song, like its title, are adapted to the gender of the current monarch, with "King" replacing "Queen", "he" replacing "she", and so forth, when a king reigns.
The official language is English, and other recognised
regional languages are Irish, Ulster Scots, Scottish Gaelic, Scots, Welsh, Cornish.
London is the capital city of England and the United Kingdom, the largest metropolitan area in the United Kingdom and the largest urban zone in the European Union by most measures. London is a leading global city, with strengths in the arts, commerce, education, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare, media, professional services, research and development, tourism and transport all contributing to its prominence.
London contains four World Heritage Sites: the Tower of London; Kew Gardens; the site comprising the Palace of Westminster, Westminster Abbey and St Margaret's Church; and the historic settlement of Greenwich (in which the Royal Observatory marks the Prime Meridian (0° longitude) and GMT). Other famous landmarks include Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Piccadilly Circus, 30 St Mary Axe ("The Gherkin"), St Paul's Cathedral, Tower Bridge and Trafalgar Square. London is home to numerous museums, galleries, libraries, sporting events and other cultural institutions including the British Museum, National Gallery, British Library, Wimbledon and 40 theatres.

英語作文 篇4
"i know that you love her," she said one day, taking me by surprise. "but i love you," i protested. "i know, but you also love her."
the other woman that my wife wanted me to visit was my mother, who has been a widow for 19 years, but the demands of my work and my three children had made it possible to visit her only occasionally. that night i called to invite her to go out for dinner and a movie. "whats wrong, are you well?" she asked.my mother is the type of woman who suspects that a late night call or a surprise invitation is a sign of bad news. "i thought that it would be pleasant to pass some time with you," i responded. "just the two of us." she thought about it for a moment, then said, "i would like that very much."
that friday after work, as i drove over to pick her up i was a bit nervous. when i arrived at her house, i noticed that she, too, seemed to be nervous about our date. she waited in the door with her coat on.she had curled her hair and was wearing the dress that she had worn to celebrate her last wedding anniversary. she smiled from a face that was as radiant as an angels. "i told my friends that i was going to go out with my son, and they were impressed," she said, as she got into the car. "they cant wait to hear about our meeting."
we went to a restaurant that, although not elegant, was very nice and cozy. my mother took my arm as if she were the first lady. after we sat down, i had to read the menu. her eyes could only read large print. half way through the entries, i lifted my eyes and saw mom sitting there staring at me. a nostalgic smile was on her lips."it was i who used to have to read the menu when you were small," she said. "then its time that you rela and let me return the favor," i responded.
during the dinner we had an agreeable conversation - nothing etraordinary - but catching up on recent events of each others life. we talked so much that we missed the movie. as we arrived at her house later, she said, "ill go out with you again, but only if you let me invite you." i agreed."how was your dinner date?" asked my wife when i got home. "very nice. much more so than i could have imagined," i answered.
a few days later my mother died of a massive heart attack. it happened so suddenly that i didnt have a chance to do anything for her. at that moment i understood the importance of saying in time: "i love you" and to give our loved ones the time that they deserve.
nothing in life is more important than your family. give them the time they deserve, because these things cannot be put off till "some other time".

英語作文 篇6
The following appeared in a memorandum from a member of a financial management and consulting firm. We have learned from an employee of Windfall, Ltd., that its accounting department, by checking about ten percent of the last months purchasing invoices for errors and inconsistencies, saved the company some $10,000 in overpayments. In order to help our clients increase their net gains, we should advise each of them to institute a policy of checking all purchasing invoices for errors. Such a recommendation could also help us get the Windfall account by demonstrating to Windfall the rigorousness of our methods. Discuss how well reasoned... etc.
Sample essay 1:
The argument that checking all purchasing invoices for errors will not only increase the net gains of the clients but also help the firm get the Windfall account is not entirely logically convincing, since it ignores certain crucial assumptions.
First, the argument assumes that instituting a policy of checking all purchasing invoices can help find out the errors and inconsistencies. There are a number of reasons why this might not be true. For example, the people who check the accounts will probably make mistakes as anyone else, intentionally or unconsciously. If they do, checking purchasing invoices will not help avoid errors and inconsistencies.
英語作文 篇7
Alongwith the development of our education, today most universities have offeredvarious electives for students to choose and study. However, some people claimthat these elective courses have very little effect on spreading knowledge andstudents’ development because what students concern about when choosingelectives are so different.
Thereare various kinds of reasons for choosing electives and I list some in here.Primarily, the most important and wide factor students concern about is theteachers of the courses. Instead considering the quality of the teacher, or theform or style of the teacher will take or act in the course, they just want tomake sure that the teacher they choose will never keep trace of theirattendance and let them fail in their exams. In addition, a large number ofstudents choose their elective courses aiming to get a high score but neverconsider what they will learn and how to apply to it. What’s worse, somestudents choose their electives just they are forced by their schools’institution demand and their score need.
Asfar as I am concerned, I advocate that the most important thing we shouldconcern about when choosing electives is our personal interests. The mostworthy meaning for these electives is to broaden our horizon and extend ourknowledge as much as possible and to complement our major and compulsorycourses. Therefore, what electives we choose should be in accordance with ourinterests and our career planning instead of aiming to make high score or passthe exam.
